Feel-Good Friday: Impact Your Mindset & Mood

It’s Friday! YAY!

Isn’t it amazing how fast these weeks fly by?! Both my husband and I are getting into our busiest times at work {sorry for the lack of posts during the week!} so all I can think about today is how excited I am to have a family dinner tonight, play with our son TOGETHER, and then put our feet up and enjoy each other’s company.

Life is busy. That’s just how it works. One thing that I’ve really been trying to work on is to STOP saying “I’m so busy.” “We’re so busy.” Because guess what? EVERYONE IS.

Often times we need to take a step back and realize that some of the things we say out loud or even solely to ourselves, can truly impact our mindset and mood. I’ll be the first to admit I got into a nasty habit of saying “I’m so busy” almost daily. If it wasn’t out loud to someone, it was to myself. I started psyching myself out of thinking I would ever get ahead. Whether it was work tasks, home chores, catching up with friends and family, or working out, the more I thought about how busy life was the more I would stress and the less productive I would be.

We’ve all heard the Lou Holtz quote:

“Life is 10 percent what happens to you…

and 90 percent how you respond to it.”

I love that quote. It’s SO TRUE. Once you start LIVING this way, it’s incredible how different you will think AND feel. I’m not going to sit here and say I never blab the words “I’m so busy” because that would be a lie. {I’m far from perfect and have a lot to work on!} What I can honestly say is that as part of my healthier lifestyle effort, I’ve made a conscious decision to hugely cut back on saying these words because I realized the negative impact it was having. It’s actually AMAZING how much of an impact it was having on my mindset and mood. And let’s get real – your mindset, positive or negative, will play into your success or lack-of success in all aspects of your life.

Today, it’s #FeelGoodFriday! {I’m also declaring it “National Say “YES” to Extra Coffee Day” if anyone wants to join in that celebration with me!} But today, I am challenging you to take a step back and do a REAL self-evaluation on something that you are CHOOSING to tell yourself and others that may be causing unneeded stress in your life.

“I don’t look good today.”

“I don’t have enough time to get things done today.”

“I really wish I didn’t have to go to work today.”

STOP. Why are you being so hard on yourself and your life? {That’s what I finally had to say to myself.} We are all guilty of it but today, tell yourself to STOP being so hard on YOU. Dig a little deeper. Instead of using your go-to negative comment, catch yourself and think about “What can I do to change how I feel?”

Enjoy your Friday and make today a feel-good day! Not every moment of every day is going to be the best but remember what good ole’ Lou stated and respond to life in the most positive way you know how.

Happy Fri-Yay!
